The Acute Frailty Network (AFN) is a 12-month programme that supports participating organisations to rapidly adopt best practice and improve emergency services for frail older people.

Our Surgical Ambulatory Emergency Care Network (SAEC) also lasts 12 months and builds on the success of our previous AEC Network to help participating organisations improve delivery of same day surgery.

Additional support programmes

We also run intensive 6-month programmes of support to accelarate improvement activity, including the AFN Optimiser Programme and the AEC Accelerator Programme.

How our networks are structured

Each of our improvement networks run for 12 months and participating organisations are supported in a variety of important ways. The structure of this support is similar across both the AFN and SAEC networks and includes:

  • 3 national events
  • Topic-specific workshops, masterclasses and webinars
  • Site visits (either virtual or face-to-face)
  • 1-1 coaching provided by a QI coach
  • Expertise on measurement
  • A return on investment calculator
  • Support to measure patient experience and use experience based design
